Our Governors
PURPOSE OF THE GOVERNING BOARD
Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school, its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The Governing Body of Selly Oak Nursery School recognises and values the contribution made by all members of the Nursery and wider community to the range of services and quality of the care, education we aim to provide. We are committed to working together in a spirit of openness, trust and respect to include everyone who wants to be involved in the work of the Nursery.
These values underpin our work and reflect the nursery’s commitment to working together to ensure that:

INSTRUMENT OF GOVERNANCE
This instrument of Government came into effect on the 16th February 2021; made by order of Birmingham Local Authority Membership of the Full Governing Body shall consist of the following:
1 LA Governor
8 Co-Opted Governors
2 parent Governors
1 Staff Governor
1 Head Teacher Governor (unless the Head Teacher resigns the office of Governor)
The total number of Governors is 13.
TERM OF OFFICE
The term of office of Parent Governor is 2 years.
The term of office of LA governor is 4 years
The term of office of staff Governor is 4 years
The term of office of co-opted governor is 4 years
QUORUM
The quorum for full Governing Board meetings shall be 50%.
The quorum for Committee meetings shall be 3 voting members.
CHAIR
The Governing Body shall appoint a Chair and a Vice Chair at its first meeting of the academic year. The Chair/ Vice Chair shall be a voting member of the Governing Body (although these posts cannot be held by the Head Teacher). In the absence of the appointed Chair, the Vice Chair shall act as Chair for the meeting.
CLERK TO THE GOVERNING BODY
The Clerk to the Full Governing Body is Nicola Chapman who has full responsibility for all clerical duties for the full Governing Body. Nicola will clerk Committee meetings if required.
MEETINGS OF THE GOVERNING BODY
The Full Governing Body shall meet once a half term or otherwise as required
COMMITTEES
In January 2021, it was agreed that three committees are formed to do particular pieces of work on behalf of the Governing Body as needed through the school year. These terms of reference apply to our: Finance and Staffing Committee Curriculum, Standards and Welfare Committee Buildings and Health and Safety Committee.
The Terms of Reference for each of these committees will be agreed at the first committee meeting
