Ofsted success for Selly Oak Nursery after fifth consecutive 'outstanding' rating

SELLY OAK Nursery School are celebrating Ofsted success after being awarded a fifth consecutive ‘outstanding’ report.

Inspectors praised the high expectations of leadership and staff, describing the School as a ‘happy place full of excited children who love to learn.’

The report highlighted how the Nursery provides high standards of teaching and learning for 3 and 4-year-olds, particularly in key areas such as phonics, maths and PSED.

This latest success follows on from ‘outstanding’ gradings in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2018.

Head Teacher Mrs Yvonne James said: “It’s an incredible achievement to be named ‘outstanding’.

“It speaks of the commitment of our dedicated team, who work so hard to care for our children.

“We strive to embrace the unique journey of our families through our values, which are equality, respect, confidence and courage.”

Inspectors were blown away by the overwhelmingly positive response from parents, with a parent saying they couldn’t fault the School.

They were also impressed by how the Nursery’s leaders see its place as central to the local community, with all members embracing its vision.

The report stated: “Children achieve exceptionally well because leaders and staff have exceptionally high expectations, and children rise to these. Leaders leave nothing to chance. They meticulously plan the curriculum and each activity to bring out the best in children.”

Opened by the Cadbury family in 1904, the Nursery continues to follow their innovative spirit by being at the forefront of early years development and learning.

It also continues to embrace UNICEF’s Rights Respecting Schools vision for all children and is currently awaiting the results of the Gold award assessment.

Parents are also supported with extended School days through Breakfast and Out of School clubs.
